How long does it take to complete a Kinesiology B.S. degree?

The Kinesiology major is a four-year degree program that includes 120 credit hours. Full-time students who transfer with an AA degree from a Florida public state college or university complete the degree in an average of two to three years. Upon graduation, students are conferred a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.

What is the difference between the tracks?

The Kinesiology B.S. degree offers two tracks: the Exercise & Sport Physiology Track and the Strength and Conditioning Track.

  • Exercise and Sport Physiology Track is appropriate for students interested in pursuing careers in exercise, sports medicine, exercise physiology, health promotion, and clinical healthcare.
  • Students in the Exercise & Sport Physiology track are prepared for certification by the American College of Sports Medicine.
  • Strength and Conditioning Track focuses on training students to understand and apply fundamental principles of human movement as it relates to careers in rehabilitation and recovery, human performance, and sport science.
  • Students in the Strength & Conditioning track are prepared for certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Are there any prerequisites for the Kinesiology major?

Yes, the Kinesiology B.S. degree is a restricted access program. Students must meet the following admissions requirements:

  • Complete the University General Education Requirements or its equivalent, i.e. an AA degree from a Florida College System or State University System institution
  • Complete the State General Education Core Requirements
  • Have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA
  • Meet the Gordon Rule requirement
  • Meet the Foreign Language Admission Requirement
  • Meet the Civic Literacy requirement

How do I get out pending?

Once you have met all the admission requirements, you may change your major and select your desired track via myUCF. For instructions on this process, please visit: https://registrar.ucf.edu/change-of-major/.

What classes are pending students eligible to enroll in?

Students can register for GEP courses, common program prerequisites, basic level core requirements and several restricted electives as a pending student.

Can the Kinesiology B.S. degree be completed online?

No. Most courses are offered face-to-face or mixed mode; however, some courses have online versions. To identify the mode of instruction for a particular course, visit myUCF. Log on using your NID and NID password. Click on Student Self Service and select Search at the top left of the page.

When can I register for classes?

Students are given an enrollment time that indicates when they can register for courses. Your “enrollment appointment” is the date and time you may begin to enroll in courses for the subsequent semester(s). Enrollment is possible from the beginning of the enrollment appointment until the Add Deadline of the term. Students are encouraged to register as soon their “enrollment appointment” opens as courses fill quickly. You can find your enrollment date and time by logging in to myUCF and navigating to your Student Self Service area. You will see an “Enrollment Appointment” box on the right side of your screen.

How do I file an intent to graduate?

  1. Log on to myUCF using your NID and password.
  2. Click on “Student Self Service” located under the myUCF Menu.
  3. Once in the myUCF Student Center portal, select “Intent to Graduate: Apply” from the “Other Academics” drop-down menu.

How do I register for Capstone?

You must be registered for all remaining courses and have filed an intent to graduate. Then you may email your assigned academic advisor to register for APK 4950 Capstone in Kinesiology.

Are there internship opportunities within the Kinesiology major?

Yes, APK 4926 –Undergraduate Internship in Kinesiology is available as a 3, 6 or 9 credit hour course. Enrollment is by application only, and juniors and/or seniors in the Kinesiology major may apply.
