Agricultural Science Innovation Center

The Napa Valley Unified School District (NVUSD) was awarded a K-12 Strong Workforce Program Round 6 Grant for their new Agricultural Science Innovation Center at Vintage High School. As NVUSD breaks ground in 2024 on a new Agricultural Science Innovation Center at Vintage High School, the funding will help upgrade Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways and introduce industry-standard technology that leads to high-wage, high-demand careers while meeting the needs of the local workforce. Additionally, funding will increase dual enrollment opportunities and facilitate student transitions to Napa Valley College in Agriculture and Natural Resource Pathways. Learn more here!

“We are excited to engage in this important work, work that has the potential to benefit all NVUSD students and allows us to continue to contribute to Napa Valley’s vibrant future.”

- Dr. Rosanna Mucetti

Belonging for All: NVUSD's Journey Toward Greater Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Steering Committee met for the second time this year to discuss initiatives to create more inclusion and belonging in our school community. The committee is also reading and discussing Dr. Shawn Ginwright’s book The Four Pivots. The committee took time to review some of the key DEI and belonging concepts shared by facilitator Dr. Watson in previous meetings and identified areas they will explore in more detail over the next three meetings this year. The steering committee is tasked with gaining a shared foundation in DEIB-related work and concepts so they can help provide feedback on how this important information can be shared more broadly within the NVUSD community.

Districts Visit NVUSD to See TeachTown in Action

Our district is gaining recognition for our use of TeachTown's enCORE curriculum. They designed it for students with moderate to severe disabilities. It stands out for its holistic approach to academic, behavioral, and adaptive skills. Our implementation of TeachTown caught the attention of Elk Grove Unified School District. Recently, they visited Snow Elementary, Redwood Middle, Napa High, and Vintage High to observe our methods. Join us in celebrating our educators' achievements and read more about the visit in the NVUSD news.

Empowering Student Success with STAR Data at Unidos

At Unidos, we've introduced a new educational strategy by involving students more directly with their STAR data. This initiative began with students analyzing their growth reports and setting personal reading goals, supported by tools like Canva and Lexia PowerUp. Following this, they retook the STAR Reading Test and saw tangible improvements in their scores, leading to a better understanding of their academic progress. This approachhas encouraged students to reflect on their achievements and understand the link between their efforts and their learning. Discover more about this student-centered approach in the NVUSD News, where we celebrate our dedication to empowering student-driven learning.

Strategic Visioning Community Engagement Opportunities

During a second series of Community Engagement Sessions between January 8 - January 21, NVUSD will host a variety of sessions for parents, students, staff, and other community members. At these events, we will be sharing prototypes of the Graduate Portrait, Adult Portrait, and System Portrait and asking the community for feedback. These drafts were created collaboratively by the NVUSD Strategic Vision Guiding Coalition after reviewing thousands of inputs from the community, learning from other initiatives and examples around the world, and researching the needs of people and the workplace in the future. Inputs from the community were collected through a variety of methods, including:

  • Inputs from over 300 students who attended the Student Summit

  • Many NVUSD parent, teacher, and special education committee meetings

  • Five meetings at NVUSD’s Family Resource Centers

  • Two large-scale Community-wide Open Houses

  • NVUSD staff meetings

  • Our online survey and more

The January Community Engagement Sessions will be best experienced in person as we ask you to provide feedback and prioritize the draft elements of the Graduate, Adult, and System Portraits. We will also provide online experiences. Please click on this link for updates to the various opportunities to share your voice and perspectives as we refine the drafts. These portraits will set our direction and influence our plans over the next decade, so your voice is critical! Final drafts of NVUSD’s vision will be shared during a Community Installation in March 2024, more details coming soon.
